This fact makes the water issue a great challenge for developing countries. Over the next two decades, an estimated 2.8 billion people will have no access to clean drinking water. Over 5 million people die from dirty drinking water every year and at least one in two inhabitants of developing countries suffer from water-related illnesses.

But also for developed countries, water is becoming an issue. Ever increasing water consumption by municipalities and industries causes the cost for water production to increase rapidly. Consequently wastewater treatment costs increase equally. Higher discharge taxes, more stringent effluent requirements and increasing awareness of preserving our environment forces companies to set out a sustainable water policy.
