Intellectual property and quality solutions hold the key to sustain the group's competitive advantage. Keppel Seghers will therefore continue to allocate resources for the continuous development and commercialisation of its proprietary technologies and engineering capabilities.
KIE’s R&D efforts are focused on developing thermal waste treatment technologies and water and wastewater treatment technologies which seek to convert waste into useful materials.
Efforts are predominantly focused on improving energy efficiency by improving energy conversion or by tapping previously unuseable sources of energy such as waste heat.

In September 2005, Keppel Seghers inaugurated its Environmental Technology Research Center in Belgium, comprising a modern laboratory and fully equiped hall for small-scale trials and pilot testing.
In March 2007, a second Research Center was opened at the Keppel Seghers Ulu Pandan Newater factory in Singapore.
